They’re the biggest animals on land, so why do they need our help? In this very special program, we’ll start with games and activities to help us better understand the challenges elephants face in the wild. Then we’ll journey behind the scenes to learn all about how Zoo Keepers care for elephants, and even make some treats for the Zoo's elephant family! This program is appropriate for 6-12 year-olds. Parents, please plan on dropping your children off.

Pima Community College is hosting a free, public Earth Day STEM event at Northwest Campus on April 16, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Learn about planet Earth and engage in hands-on activities for all ages related to protecting our environment, as well as climatology, geosciences, biology, astronomy, and physics from more than 60 community STEM organizations. Find out about careers in STEM fields as well as many other excellent Pima Community College programs, try out our giant campus sundial, snack on food cooked in a solar oven and observe the sun safely through a solar telescope. The Northwest Campus is located at 7600 N. Shannon Road, just north of the Ina and Shannon intersection. Parking is free. Join us for this fantastic fun event! Need more information? Some animals blend in their surroundings and some animals look like ferocious predators (but aren’t!). This month come to the Zoo and explore awesome adaptations intended to trick other animals. Learn about moths that trick predators into thinking their owls or insects that look like sticks! Through hands-on learning activities, games and up-close animal experiences, students will see first-hand camouflage and mimicry throughout the animal kingdom.

Learn to use your ears as much as (if not more than) your eyes while birding your favorite destinations. This class will delve into the world of bird vocalizations and give you a framework for learning the voices of our master singers. The evening classroom session will introduce you to sonograms and vocalization types, as well as work on comparisons between similar sounding Arizona species. The field trip will give students a chance to use these skills in the field. Vocalizations will be recorded and brought back to the classroom to analyze.
